The owners asked for a landscape that would still make sense to their grandchildren. We planned the estate in three horizons: an immediate structure of stone terracing and mature transplants, a ten-year layer of specimen trees now filling in, and a fifty-year forest edge planted from seedlings that will outlast the current house. Nothing on the property was chosen to look finished on installation day; it was chosen to keep improving.
